From the Leipzig Charter to the SDGs

With almost 70% of the EU population living in urban areas, cities and regions are in heart of the development towards a more inclusive and sustainable future. Facing challenges such as the impacts of climate change, demography or economic growth they are also hubs and catalysts for innovation, job creation and sustainability.

Achieving success in policy making, policy implementation and in delivering results to the citizens substantially depends on the ability to tackle these challenges at the local level. This can only be achieved by fostering integrated strategies involving all stakeholders and different levels of governance to enhance sustainable urban development.

The aim of this event is to provide an overview of the progress in the field of integrated sustainable urban development in Europe, identify and explore the links between Cohesion Policy and the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), highlighting the central role of the local authorities in promoting and implementing sustainable development policies.
